What is the best treatment or spletic marginal zone b cell lymphoma? What are the long term life expectancies?
Expert answer
Hi, the best treatment for splenic marginal zone lymphoma (SMZL) really depends on the disease extent. Some can have a splenectomy - removal of the spleen alone or targeted therapy with rituxan. This is a medication that specifically goes to the cancer if it has a certain "homing device" called CD-20. Life expectancy can be in terms of many years (10+) while there are instances of people living an average of 18 months. This on average is a slow growing disease for many.
