Saliva Duct Mass
Asked November 15, 2011
Hi DR. Jaggernauth
I have a small mass on my saliva duct. My MRI said it is locale. The ENT wants to take out the duct and the gland but it is very dangerous. It will be done in a locale hospital. Should I go to a cancer hospital?
I don't drink or smoke and I'm 67 years old and in good health. Will it make me look different and interfere with my speech? Judi
Expert answer
Hi Judi,
What you need to do is to ask the surgeon how many of these has he performed and what is his post-operation complication rate. He should be willing to share those numbers with you. Also going to a surgeon that is board certified is extremely helpful - and I strongly recommend it.
Hope this helps,
Dr. Jag.
