Dr. I'm a 30 yr old guy from india. I was diagnosed left renal artery renal cell carninoma initially by CT and underwent a major surgery - procedure named as LEFT RADICAL NEPHRECTOMY WITH IVC THROMBECTONMY. Tumor of left kidney was 15x10cm, thrombus in IVC extened upto 5 cm above left renal artery. The histopathology rreport shows its a PNET but adviced to get Immunohistochemistry confirmation in the biopsy report. But the oncologist which I referred wanted me to undergo Chemotheraphy immediately. But my argument is without get the confirmation from Immunohistochemistry report how can you conclude the nature of chemotheraphy. Suggest me what kind of chemotheraphy I need to undergo and for how long?
Expert answer
Hi, you have the correct idea. The IHC needs to be confirmed that this is truly a PNET vs a Renal Carcinoma. The treatments are vastly different for a renal cell carcinoma vs a pnet. It may also be helpful to obtain a special test called a tumor molecular profile to find any molecular arrangements that are possible target sites.
Thanks,
