A child I am close to has been treated for Ewings Sarcoma. She had a bone tumor removed after 7 rounds of chemo. the tumor had 100% necrosis. That means the chemo was very effective, correct? She is now beginning her 14th an final round of chemo. On her last chemo treatment, she had to be given Lasix for the first time? Can this be a sign of kidney or cardiac damage? Is she at increased risk this last round of chemo? What is her prognosis for recurrence?
Expert answer
Hi,
The fact that she had 100% necrosis may mean that she has no detectable evidence of disease - this is very good. Lasix may be given for fluid retention for various reasons and the prognosis is really hard to tell based on the limited information. Hope all goes well with her.
