My 79 year old mother has had a recurrance of breast cancer after 46 years cancer-free. This time it is mostly in her bones and there was one nodule on her neck. Her Doctor has put her on Arimidex. Is this the strongest and best medication? She will be starting radiation soon as well.

Expert answer

Hi, this is a great medication and I would use it as well to treat her. Sometimes it may cause some muscle aches - so dont be surprised by that. Ask your Doctor about adding Zometa to her treatment - this strengthens the bones and also has an anti-cancer effect on microscopic disease. Radiation is useful for areas at risk of fracture or causing much pain which I also do (depending on the case).
