Home Health Care
Tiresome hospital visits and sterile medical buildings can take their toll on cancer patients. When you’re ill, the comfort and security of home can be more nurturing and inspiring than the most sophisticated hospitals and cancer centers. Hospital care may be conducive to disease treatment, but it is not always the best option for mental and spiritual wellbeing, which are just as important as physical health.
This directory of home health care providers and assisted living companies is designed to help answer your questions about the benefits of healing at home. Home health care keeps families near one another, eliminates inconvenient visiting hours, provides patients with tailor-made medical care, and preserves patient independence and dignity.

Choosing home health care: what to know
Home health agencies send nurses and therapists to the home for skilled care: wound care, injections, monitoring after surgery or treatment, and physical, occupational or speech therapy. Some also provide home health aides for personal care.
Medicare covers part-time skilled home health care for patients who are homebound and under a doctor's care. Agencies matched to Medicare records show their quality and patient survey star ratings from Medicare Care Compare.
Questions to ask
- Are you Medicare-certified, and do you serve my address?
- Which services will I receive, and how often will someone visit?
- Do your nurses have oncology experience?
- Do they accept my insurance or Medicare, and what will I pay out of pocket?
