So, I recently chatted it up with my old friend Brian Rechtman, the Founder & CEO of BlueTree Marketing—a company that offers non-profit organizations and schools an online alternative to live silent auctions. Brian and I have known each other since we were just kids and I’ve been privileged to watch his company grow into what it is today! BlueTree has created a platform to effectively run online charity auctions in order to increase starting bids for live silent auctions or even better…replace them all together. So just to clarify, this can save nonprofits from having to set up big bulky events that require time, money, resources and instead allows them to engage donors in an interactive online setting—hmmm, sounds like an auctioneer’s utopia! For all of our readers who work with a cancer organization, make sure to look these guys up and see how they can help you.

Letters to God Red Carpet World Premier

Know Cancer Community

Oh, what a night! It’s hard to put an exact order to the top ten nights of my life but the Letters to God (LTG) Orlando premier is most certainly on that list! On March 31st the LTG actors, actresses, producers, partners and supporters walked the red carpet at the Plaza Theatre smack in the heart of downtown Orlando—and what a love-fest it was! :) Those guys are up there among the kindest most thoughtful group of individuals that we Know Cancer folks get to work with.

It all started with the red carpet walk and a 2 hour mingling session, where we got to catch up with all of our good friends from Possibility Pictures. The crowd then migrated to the 2nd level where the moment of truth awaited us…that’s right, the movie cued and ready! I got to sit next to the great Ann Marie Boskovich, who sings my song “Everything is Beautiful” (which is in the movie)! When the credits rolled and the lights turned back on, you could not see a dry eye for miles—although, it was hard to see anything at that point with tears in our eyes and a mountain of Kleenex in our laps. The film was fantastic!! And what’s more, they included a survivor story about “yours truly” at the end of the movie, which was an incredible surprise!

Camp Kesem Creates a Week of Fun for Kids

Cancer Camps & Retreats

http://www.studentsofamf.org/UserFiles/Image/wfnx7g7n.jpg

In February 2001, Sam and Matthew’s father was diagnosed with prostate cancer. For five years he fought to live, then passed away when Sam was 10 and Matthew was 8. Their mother says, “Living with and losing a parent to cancer is something no child should ever have to experience.”

Three years later, the boys’ mother discovered Camp Kesem. She didn’t know much about the camp, but knew that the boys needed to be with other kids who “got” what they were going through.

At first Sam and Matthew were reluctant to join in. But within 30 minutes they were laughing and playing with the other kids—reveling in the energy that the counselors created. When they saw their mother still standing nearby, one of them asked “why are you still here?” She says she “did the little happy dance and got in my car.”

On the surface, Camp Kesem looks like any overnight summer camp – days filled with skits, songs, sports, and tie-dying t-shirts. But the camp, a national non-profit organization that provides free, week-long overnight camps for children of cancer patients, is anything but typical.

I’m Too Young for This! i[2]y Cancer Foundation

Cancer Community

So we recently received a few Facebook, Twitter and Blog comments from the i[2]y team giving us an earful about why the “I’m Too Young For This! Cancer Foundation” was not included in our blog post about Cancer and Social Media. Soon after that, I personally received a message from Mathew Zachary (i[2]y’s Founder) bringing this same striking fact to my attention.

i2y cancer foundation

One would have thought I hacked onto their website and shut it down…lol…getting a message directly from their Founder, it must have been a code red alert at the i[2]y headquarters!

However, no code red…but that’s just how seriously these guys take their mission…and THAT’S WHAT I’M TALKING ABOUT!!!!

We love and appreciate this kind of passion!! It’s organizations like “I’m too young for this!” who aren’t afraid to speak up and make some noise…that’s why these guys are pervading the interwebs and making an extremely large impact on the cancer community. For those of you teens and young adults who aren’t familiar, www.I2Y.org is a website you need to bookmark immediately!
